Services I Provide

I provide prenatal care at your home. For a planned hospital birth, I attend your labour at home. Once the labour is well established, we move to the hospital for the actual birth of your baby. Most of my clients choose early discharge from the hospital and the rest of the postpartum care is provided at your home. For women opting for a home birth, a second midwife will arrive closer to the birth of the baby to assist.

Informed choice is a fundamental principle of midwifery care in BC (see attached Model of Midwifery Practice document). The childbearing woman is recognized as the primary decision-maker, and it is the responsibility of the midwife to provide you with the information and evidence necessary so you can make choices for yourself and your family. I anticipate that you will actively seek out information on your own as well, in order to make informed choices.

Your commitment to ongoing care gives me the opportunity to share knowledge so you always feel in control of your care. A basic tenet of midwifery care is the trust relationship that grows between the midwife and the client. To provide competent and ethical practice, I am first and foremost accountable to the woman in my care: then, to my peers, the college and the public.

If I feel that your care falls outside of my scope of practice and abilities, I will refer you to another care provider. I work closely with many medical professionals and refer accordingly.
